Default Looking for someone in Maryland to help with head gasket problem..
so, I just bought this 01 disco from a dealership. The kids and I bought it as a gift for the wife. Thinking I got a good deal, even took someone who is more mechanically incline then me to look at vehicle. 6 months later, one shop told me I need 6k of work on the vehicle. Leaky head gasket, etc..If anyone here lives in Maryland in the Gaithesburg area and is willing to help me repair my 01 disco with a leaky head gasket, I will compensate you for your time. Or if u know of a trusted mechanic, please let me know as well.
I am totally bummed.

Welcome to the forum. About the nearest rover person I know to you is Will Tillery @ http://willtillery.com/ his web site doesn't work well any more, but his number is 434-251-9331

but if it is just a head gasket you shouldn't be out more than a grand. Not sure what else shop told you is wrong.

When working with GEMS vehicles. Never try to locate a misfire by pulling plug leads off - pull the injector connector instead. Otherwise you can blow up the ECU.

Secondly never swap ECUs between vehicles to test them, because both vehicles and ECUs may stop working, and you'll have to have them all reset by a franchised LR dealer (ouch!).
