Default Landrover Freelander 2001 TD4

@Joey, thanks a mill for this site, firstly-have started the rave download, just a couple of Q's, firstly my Td4 is smoking badly especially when cold and it is black smoke smelling like oil. where would I start looking, I have read somewhere that it can be the rings on the turbo???

Sorry for the delay on this... sadly this site isn't used much... we are at landroverworld.org either way... are you losing oil? or just over consuming fuel... check the oil in the turbo as well.

When working with GEMS vehicles. Never try to locate a misfire by pulling plug leads off - pull the injector connector instead. Otherwise you can blow up the ECU.

Secondly never swap ECUs between vehicles to test them, because both vehicles and ECUs may stop working, and you'll have to have them all reset by a franchised LR dealer (ouch!).
