I am seriously considering the purchase of a 2000 discovery se ii with 117,000 miles. The vehicle is in excellent condition and has had two previous owners. Have a couple of friends telling not to purchase as this model is know for abs brake issues amoung other things and will be a money pit. Looking for some feedback...
Thanks for your time.
I guess this really depends on how well it was taken care of and if you enjoy doing any work on the vehicle yourself. I personally Love Rovers, but they are not for everyone.
A 2000 with 117k on the clock will certainly require some love in the next 30k to 40k miles. My 1997 Disco has over 150k on the clock, and I use it only for off roading and winter driving. Mine has this lovely issue of sucking fuel like a kind with candy. One of these days I will tear into her and figure the issue out. I have also disabled the ABS, something you can't really do on the D2 (i.e. 99.5 - 04). Generally the sensors get dirty or can go bad just like any other vehicle on the road. The big difference is since the D2 is all wheel drive and depends on the ABS for speed.. traction... and stopping it isn't something you want to turn off.
If serious, I recommend having someone who knows something about Rovers help look it over if for nothing more than to bring the price down. Remember all rovers leak fluids unless they are empty. And any vehicle built buy people who love Soccer and drink great beer will have to be part of the family not just a member of the garage.
